Why does it say *12, *8, *6 etc. above the components and units?
The asterisk helps to provide orientation with regard to components and units. For example, a shelf model 12x marked *12 fits an open unit width *12. A CD drawer model 33 has dimensions *3 x *3 and fits a unit or a space with width and height *3.

What do *12, *8, *6 etc. mean?
Montana’s dimensions are built up in increments of twelve based on the basic unit marked *12 x *12 = 69.6 x 69.6 cm.
An asterisk dimension * is the same as 5.7 cm.
The equation for the shelving unit outer dimensions for a *12 unit (69.6 cm) is calculated as follows: 12 x 5.7 cm + 1.2 cm = 69.6 cm.
The inner dimensions of a unit *12 unit are calculated as 12 x 5.7cm – 1.2 cm, which gives 67.2 cm. The dimensions of the other units and components can be calculated in the same way.

Can I get a Montana shelving unit without backing?
As backing is part of Montana construction, Montana without backing is not possible.
If you are looking for a shelving unit as a transparent room divider, you can choose units with glass backing.

How high up on the wall should I mount my shelving units?
There are no fixed guidelines for wall mounting as the best positioning depends on several factors, including the height of the unit. Consideration should also be given to aesthetics such as other horizontal and vertical lines in the room and the positioning and height of other furniture. Finally, functionality must be taken into account – positioning must be practical and functional.

Why can I not mount units 1111/ 4111/ 6111/ 7111 on the wall?
These units have no vertical partitioning that “touches” the bottom – i.e. you risk bending the bottom if you expose the unit to overloading.
Can I fit wheels on all units?
Yes - with the exception of wardrobes and wardrobe units, and units 1111, 4111, 6111, 7111 and 8111 without a permanent vertical partition. If several units are placed on top of each other you will need a base plate mounted on wheels.

Why are there supporting rails under *12 units (width 69.6cm) on wheels?
Supporting rails are fitted under *12 units with wheels to prevent bending over time.
