Andreas Hansen

Andreas Hansen’s approach to design:

“To endeavour to obtain the best quality possible.”
“To use wood, metal, plastic and paper for the purposes for which they are best suited.”
“To imbue objects with a timeless, classic style that enables the product to last a long time, both as a commodity and for the consumer.”

Andreas Hansen became a qualified cabinetmaker in 1957. Afterwards, he continued at the Danish School of Applied Art and at the Furniture Design School of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He subsequently taught at both institutions for a number of years.

Andreas Hansen has had his own design studio in Copenhagen since 1965, and here he has primarily been involved with furniture design together with a number of leading, quality-conscious manufacturers.

In 2005 Andreas Hansen teamed up with Peter J. Lassen to design the line of AP chairs. They aimed to create a light, distinguished chair with the emphasis on functional qualities. The shape of the seat derives from the notion of a chair made from a piece of folded paper.
